The shorter, guided Discovery routes of the 7th Pindus Crossing from Metsovo to Konitsa (8-15 km a day); the coach takes the group to and from each trailhead and everyone meets again every evening. You can switch to the long Challenge routes (see the separate listing) or take a rest day on any day. Day 1 (16/7): coach from Athens, Karaiskaki Square 15:00 (stops at Chaidari, Evinochori and Ioannina), night in a Metsovo hotel. Day 2: Pade la Laklou lake - Mavrovouni (1,997 m) - Flegga (2,157 m) and the Flegga lakes - Arkoudorema - Aoos river to the Valia Calda refuge; 15 km, +280/-1,080 m, 7-8 h. Day 3: Vovousa square - Valia Stathi, then by 4x4 to Distrato; 10 km, +340/-270 m. Day 4: Distrato-Grevena road (km 4) - Boulmpasi spring - Valia Kirna - Agia Paraskevi monastery, then by coach to Samarina; 8 km, +510/-440 m, 4-5 h. Day 5: Pades - Smolikas Drakolimni (2,150 m) - Pades; 12 km, ±1,000 m, 5-6 h. Day 6: swim at the Iliochori waterfalls, then Mikro Papigko - Astraka refuge (1,950 m); 8 km, +1,000/-200 m, 5-6 h. Day 7 (22/7): Astraka - Tymfi Drakolimni (2,050 m) - Astraka - Mikro Papigko, coach to the Konitsa bridge for a swim and lunch; 8 km, +500/-1,200 m, 5-6 h; coach to Athens at 16:00, arriving about 23:00. Luggage moves between stops by bus or 4x4. Nights in a Metsovo hotel, guesthouses in Distrato and Samarina and dormitories at the Valia Calda, Munti Smolikas (Pades) and Astraka refuges (bring a sheet set or sleeping-bag liner). Included: HMCS mountain guides (1 per 10), all transport and 4x4 support, all nights and breakfasts, mushroom dinner in Samarina, party in Distrato with one drink, Pindus Crossing T-shirt, radios, group first-aid kit, liability insurance and 24% VAT.
