Saturday day trip to mountainous Arcadia on section 5 of the Menalon Trail (the first certified European trail in Greece), from Nymfasia (formerly Granitsa) to Vytina: 5.6 km and about 3 hours with +310/-110 m. From Nymfasia the path soon enters flysch and dense vegetation and descends gently to the bed of the Mylaontas river. The first stop is the historic single-arch stone Tzavaraina bridge, among running water and plane trees, for a rest and group photos. The path then climbs beside the Mavra Litharia, a limestone mass that forms a small wild gorge, and continues on a gentle climb through Old Vytina to Vytina, where the hike ends near traditional taverns and cafés for coffee and a meal. The Menalon Trail has European-standard waymarking. Coach from the Agios Antonios metro station in Peristeri at about 09:00 (approximate), back at about 21:00 (approximate). The €40 includes the coach (driver's meal, fuel and tolls), mountain guides who graduated from a guide school and are trained in first aid, guides' expenses, civil liability insurance, photos and 24% VAT.
