Saturday: mostly downhill hike from Chania near the ski centre through beech, chestnut and pine forest, past the old abandoned sanatorium and down an old cobbled path to just outside Portaria (one-way, 8 km, +120 m / -550 m, about 3.5 h with stops, grade 1-2 easy-moderate). Sunday: free time in Makrinitsa and lunch in Volos, then return to Athens before 22:00. One night with breakfast at the Xenia Palace 4* in Portaria. Deposit €80 within 2 days of booking. Included: coach transport, experienced escorts certified in first aid, group first-aid kit, hiking poles, travel-agency liability insurance and taxes; meals not included. Bring hiking boots (required), clothes for the season, a windproof/waterproof jacket, a backpack, at least 1.5 litres of water, snacks and a change of clothes and shoes for after the hike.
