Coach day trip to Mainalo combining a mushroom foray with a hike in the autumn forests of Arcadia, guided by a certified mushroom expert. Point-to-point route from Pilalistra, just outside the village of Piana, to Alonistaina, through fir forest and clearings: 6 km, +180 m / -180 m, grade A, about 2:45 h net walking time (4:00 h with stops). Learn the basic identification features of mushrooms, with respect for the ecosystem, and observe the autumn nature of Mainalo. The presence and variety of mushrooms depend on the weather and the season; the activity focuses on observation and knowledge of the forest, without promising any particular amount of picking. At the end of the route there is a short presentation and identification of mushrooms with the certified mushroom expert: sorting of samples, basic features, safety rules and questions from the group. After the route there is a stop for food at a local tavern before returning to Athens; the meal is optional and not included in the price. Suitable for people with basic fitness; no previous hiking or mushroom-picking experience needed. Required gear: hiking boots with a non-slip sole.
