Loop hike of about 6.5 km with about 310 m of climbing in the southern part of the Vyronas Aesthetic Forest on Mount Hymettus, heading towards the old quarries, the Karavi climbing field and the Drakospito (Dragon House) of Hymettus. The Drakospito, well hidden on the slopes of Hymettus, is possibly the oldest structure in Attica, built from huge stone blocks weighing tens of tonnes, with remains of other dragon houses around it. Points of interest: the southern part of the Vyronas Aesthetic Forest, the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Koutalas, the Karavi climbing field, the Drakospito and the 344 m hill, with stretching in the forest at the end. Along the way there are talks on how the Aesthetic Forest was created ("the finest balcony of Hymettus"), the story of the "Trelos" (Madman), and the local flora and fauna. Hymettus is a protected habitat and Natura 2000 site with views over Athens. Grade A (Amateur): suitable also for beginner hikers in good physical condition. Walking time 3+ hours; back at the starting point around 12:00. In unsettled weather the guide may shorten or cancel the hike.
