First edition of a new 53 km road ultra in memory of the victims of the Nazi occupation: from Vlacherna, a martyr village of Arcadia burned in July 1944, to the Kapi hill execution site in Kalavryta, where more than 400 people were executed on 13 December 1943. Not to be confused with the long-running 10 km Kalavryta Holocaust Race, which is held the next day (Sunday 6 December, free, usually at 11:00). Start 10:30 at the central square of Vlacherna (on provincial road 111 Tripoli-Olympia, near the Arkadiki Gefsi restaurant); finish inside the Kapi hill execution site, about 500 m east of Kalavryta on the road to the ski centre. Entirely on asphalt, +600 m. Route: Vlacherna - Panagitsa (km 7) - Pagkrati gorge (km 14) - Klima Pausania (km 20) - Kleitoria (km 28) - Kastria (km 36) - Kato Lousoi (km 42) - ski centre exit (km 46) - Kalavryta, Kapi hill (km 53). Marked in red, with km signs every 5 km. Time limit 8 hours (18:30). 8 aid stations; cut-offs at Pagkrati gorge km 14 (12:15), Kleitoria km 28 (14:30, main station with timing mat) and Kato Lousoi km 42 (16:30). Drop bags at km 20, 28, 42 and 46. Age 18+. Medal for all finishers within 8 hours; awards for the first 6 men and first 3 women, and the winners also receive a medal bearing the image of the late Panagiotis Skoulis. Dry-fit T-shirt and souvenirs for all; the bib carries the names of the roughly 600 recorded victims of December 1943. Personal crew allowed in a vehicle (declared at the race office, free), stopping only at aid stations. Race office at the Arkadiki Gefsi restaurant in Vlacherna: Friday 4/12 18:30-20:30 and Saturday 5/12 08:00-10:15. Entry €55, or €70 including the coach from Athens (leaves Karaiskaki square, Metaxourgeio, outside the Stanley hotel, at 06:15 on Saturday and returns from Kalavryta at 19:00; a Sunday return is also possible for those staying to run the 10 km). Runners can also leave their car in Vlacherna and return on the organiser's coach at no extra cost (email to book). No organiser transport from Kalavryta to the start on race morning. Registration closes Wednesday 2/12 at 12:00; payment by bank transfer (or at the Olympus trophy shop in Piraeus) by Thursday 3/12; no payment on race day. Accommodation is up to each runner.
